Theoretical Design

1. Which building typology are you researching?
I will be researching green buildings that use rainwater, gray-water and possibly wind power. The typology of my building will be a spa/baths facility.

2. Why are you researching this building typology?
I think the green elements are very important for my future progression and understanding in architecture. I also have never designed a spa/bath type of facility so I think it would be an interesting project.

3. What is the specialty of this building type you would like to research?
Thermal baths using harvested water. And possibly aroma therapy using the plans grown in the vertical greenhouse of the facility.

4. What are the examples that you will be researching? (10 examples)
The Therme Vals - Peter Zumthor (thermal bath, spa, hotel)
The Hearst Tower - Foster and Partners (rainwater harvesting)
Green Museum (San Francisco) - Renzo Piano
The Dynamic Tower (Dubai) - David Fisher
Song Jiang Green Resort (China) - Atkins

5. What are your goals for working with this building type?
I think this building type syncs well with the type of green technology that I am interested in for this project.

6. What are the program elements that you see included at this point in your building?
Vertical farming, rainwater and gray water harvesting, possibly a Geo-thermal system, hot baths.

  1. Hello Eric,

I cannot find the book of Herman Hessen in English. The original title (written in German) is:
Kurgast: Aufzeichnungen von einer Badener Ku
The story is placed in the city Baden of Switzerland.
You can also google Baden Baden and find general information about one of the biggest 'bath cities'. Tomorrow I ll bring you some reference images of light insertion studies as I promised.

    Best,
    Loukia
